Fire & love sermon

Mercure hotel garden 5-18

Reflecting on those weighty words at royal wedding passed
When preacher given seven minutes, fourteen made it last
Where passion and a joy that some felt out of place, absurd
Left those both there & watching from afar feel shaken, stirred.

I wonder, now it’s over, how may I its power embrace?
How let the ‘balm of Gilead’ lead me in paths of grace?
How let the Spirit’s fire my rigid rules & worries melt,
So love that’s greater, heavenly, may in my life be felt?

I wonder too, could tidings of such wild love from beyond
Brought to our shores with zeal and gusto from across the pond
Have potency our wider culture’s stiff reserve to shake
Our sceptic thoughts and barriers ‘gainst Love divine to break?
